How Does This Organic Weed Killer Work?

Nutrient Overdose of the Weed

One Earth Weed Control eliminates dandelions and other weeds in your lawn  by a unique control method – nutrient overdose of the weed.

Oxidative Damage

One Earth Weed Control is absorbed more effectively by broadleaf weeds than by grass species, making it selectively toxic to unwanted plants while sparing most grasses. Once absorbed, the product causes oxidative damage within the weed’s cells, disrupting their photosynthesis and metabolic processes, which ultimately leads to cell death. As a result, the leaves of the weeds dry out and turn brown, effectively killing the plant above ground.

Fast Results (24-48 Hours)

After this natural weed killer has been applied and watered into the soil, the dandelions usually turn black and die within 24 to 72 hours.

Weed Control Rates

For Different Types of Weeds

Bindweed

Good Control

Bindweed: (Good Control 60-80%, but it will typically grow back quickly) Bindweed is an indicator of drought stress or improper lawn watering.

We offer a special bindweed control which works very well with only one application.

Black Medic

Good Control

Black Medic: (Good Control 60-80%) Higher weed control can be achieved (80-90% control) if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later. This weed blooms from April to October. This weed is commonly found in lawns with low fertility.

Broad Plantain

Okay Control

Broadleaf Plantain: (Okay Control 50-70%+) This is an indicator of soil compaction. Soil compaction can be caused by too much water and plantain can be cured via aeration.

Note: We get about 80-90% control if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later.

Bull Thistle

Okay Control

Bull Thistle: (Okay Control 50-70%+) Thistle is found in both lawn, non-turf areas, as well as native areas. A healthy, dense lawn is the best defense against thistle. By mowing tall, you will discourage the seeds and roots from growing.

Canada Thistle

Okay Control

Canada Thistle: (Okay Control 50-70%+) Best control rates are achieved on smaller weeds. You will mostly seed only the young stage of this weed in a lawn. This weed is also commonly found in pasture areas where it can grow up to 4 feet tall.

Chickweed

Poor Control

Common Chickweed: (Poor Control 40-60%) Higher weed control can be achieved (80-90% control) if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later.

Coarse Fescue

No Control – Special Treatment Required

Coarse Tall Fescue: (No Control 0%) Since this is a grass, One Earth will not control this, because it is so closely related to the turf grasses.

We offer a special control for coarse fescue grasses which requires 3 back-to-back-to-back applications.

Crabgrass

No Control – Special Treatment Required

Crabgrass: (No Control 0%) One Earth does not control crabgrass. This weed is natural erosion control, so it will move into bare areas and along the edges of the grass.

We offer a special crabgrass control which works very well with only one application.

Dandelion

Amazing Results

Dandelion: (Incredible Control 90%+, especially in the spring) Dandelions prefer full sun and moist soils with good drainage, but will grow in just about every light condition. Once established, this plant is so resilient that it can grow in poor soil conditions where other plants especially grass will not grow.

False Dandelion

Great Control

False Dandelion: (Excellent Control 80-90%+) This weed is also known as Cat’s Ear. This weed is most commonly seen in the fall. An easy way to tell this from a dandelion is by the leaves. The false dandelion has fine hairs on the leaves.

Lambs Ears

Poor Control

Lambs Ears: (Poor Control 25-50%) This weed blooms from spring to early summer. This is usually only considered a weed in the lawn, it’s often found in landscaping as an ornamental plant.

Mallow

Okay Control

Mallow: (Okay Control 50-70%) The best control occurs on young mallow plants. Mature plants achieve poor weed control rates (25-40%).

Higher weed control can be achieved (80-90% control) if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later.

Plantain

Okay Control

Narrow-Leaved Plantain: (Okay Control 50-70%+) This is an indicator of soil compaction. Soil compaction can be caused by too much water and plantain can be cured via aeration.

Higher weed control can be achieved (80-90% control) if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later.

Oxalis

Okay Control

Oxalis: (Okay Control 40-80%) This weed is an indicator of poor soil fertility. Low soil fertility can be caused by daily or too frequent lawn watering.

Higher weed control can be achieved (80-90% control) if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later.

P. Speedwell

Good Control

Persian Speedwell: (Good Control 60-80%) This is both a summer and winter annual depending on the location. It’s most commonly found in disturbed soils. This weed flowers from February through May. Because this weed comes up from a seed, you will see great control with Synergy when used regularly.

Prickly Lettuce

Excellent Control

Prickly Lettuce: (Excellent Control 80-90%+) Also known as Wild Lettuce. This weed is often seen in landscaped areas, fields, and gardens. It can grow up to 6 feet tall if left uncontrolled. Lettuce will bloom from April through October.

P. Spruge

Poor Control

Prostrate Spurge: (Poor Control 40-80%) Higher weed control can be achieved (80-90% control) if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later.

How to Get the Best Results from Your
One Earth Weed Control Application?

Water Before and After Treatment

Moisture Truly Helps

Watering the lawn before and after the One Earth Weed Control application will provide the best results.

Young Actively Growing Weeds

One Earth Weed Control is highly effective at eliminating dandelions and larger leaf weed.  The best control rates occur when the weeds are young, actively growing, and healthy (not drought stressed). However, One Earth is less effective against smaller-leafed weeds such as oxalis and clover.

Chemical Free

This product is ideal for those who desire a beautiful lawn while avoiding chemical weed control methods. One Earth Weed Control excels at killing dandelions and making the lawn healthy and lush. It is also considered non-toxic to people, pets, bees, and children, making it a great choice for families. This is why Organo-Lawn utilizes it to provide exceptional, child- and pet-friendly lawn care services.

One Earth Weed Control is made from a proprietary blend of food-grade ingredients and a unique form of iron. All ingredients are edible, although we wouldn’t eat the weed killer itself.

Proper Sprinkler Coverage
To achieve the best results from a One Earth Weed Control application, we recommend watering your lawn the day before and the day after the application. Lawns that are watered in this manner tend to experience the highest levels of weed control.

Warning About Drought Stressed Lawns

One Earth Weed Control can, in rare cases, cause temporary browning in drought-stressed lawns or in grass with shallow root systems. This browning typically occurs when lawns do not follow the 1-2-3-2-1 lawn watering technique or in areas with inadequate sprinkler coverage.

It Will Recover

The damage may last between 1 to 6 weeks, depending on the overall health of the lawn; however, the grass will recover if the affected area is thoroughly watered. This temporary damage is mainly seen in lawns with shallow root systems, which can result from improper watering techniques or poor irrigation coverage.

Water Helps

If damage occurs, please hand-water the affected areas deeply for three consecutive days. We also recommend conducting a sprinkler audit to prevent future issues.

One Earth Weed Control for Lawns FAQs

When is the Best Time of Year to Apply a Weed Killer in a Lawn?

Young and Actively Growing Weeds

Weeds are easiest to control when they are young, actively growing, and have plenty of moisture. For most weeds, including dandelions, this is typically in the spring, especially from late April to May. The ideal time to apply a weed killer is shortly after a rainstorm or when temperatures are cool. During these times, the stomata (pores on the leaves) of the plants are fully open, making them more receptive to absorbing the weed killer.

Water Before and After for Best Results

One Earth Weed Control achieves the best results on dandelions when applied after a rainstorm or after the lawn is thoroughly watered. Our full-season lawn care programs are designed to apply weed killers during the periods when weeds are most susceptible to control. Organic weed control applications are usually scheduled about every 6-8 weeks. For fully mature weeds, multiple applications may be necessary.

Dept of Ag Rules

However, it is important to note that the Colorado Department of Agriculture does not allow any weed control products to be labeled as completely safe. Therefore, while we cannot definitively claim that One Earth is safe for children and pets, we can confirm that it is made from edible, non-toxic ingredients.

Pet Friendly

One Earth is non-toxic for pets; however, the ingredients can be sticky. We recommend keeping pets off the lawn until the product has dried completely. For those that prefer a little extra caution, we suggest watering the product into the soil before allowing pets back onto the lawn.

One Earth Weed Control can, in rare cases, cause temporary browning in drought-stressed lawns or in grass with shallow root systems. This browning typically occurs when lawns do not follow the 1-2-3-2-1 lawn watering technique or in areas with inadequate sprinkler coverage.

You should see results in 2-4 days, and with proper lawn watering results can bee seen in as little as 24 hours.

For optimal results, we recommend mowing your lawn either two days before or two days after a One Earth application. This timing ensures that the grass is short enough for us to effectively spray the weeds, while also allowing the weeds to have enough surface area to absorb the product.

However, as long as the grass is shorter than 8 inches, there are no restrictions on when the lawn was last mowed. You can mow the lawn as soon as a few minutes before the application or several weeks prior without any issues.

All of the ingredients in our One Earth Weed Control are considered edible and there is no indication that any of the ingredients would be toxic to dogs or any other animals.
