All the ingredients in One Earth Weed Control are considered to be edible and the 100% organic weed killer is created using a proprietary mix of edible ingredients and a special form of iron. This special mix of ingredients causes the broadleaf weeds to have a nutrient overdose and the result is that the cells of the weeds will turn black and die.

The organic fertilizer in One Earth Weed Control will fertilize the lawn and stimulate beneficial microbial activity in soils. The all-natural weed killer for lawns also includes a special organic fertilizer, which is derived from the beet extraction process.

If the lawn is healthy and the lawn weeds are actively growing we will see very high weed control rates. If the lawn is drought-stressed or the weeds are mature then the weed control effectiveness will be reduced.

How to kill dandelion weeds in a lawn without using chemicals?

Organic Dandelion Killer for Lawns

The most effective way to kill dandelions and other weeds in a lawn without using chemicals is to give them a nutrient overdose. One product that is extremely effective in killing dandelions is One Earth Weed Control The ingredients in One Earth Weed Control consist of edible and plant-based products plus a special form of iron. The spray also includes some naturally occurring chelating agents which means the nutrients in the fertilizer and soils become more available to the weed for uptake. The ingredients in One Earth Weed Control function as catalysts for oxygen reduction, which causes the production of unstable and highly reactive oxygen radicals, such as hydroxyl radicals. This causes cellular damage within the weed—leading to plant death. i.e. The dandelions and broad-leaf weeds can’t handle the nutrient overload because they metabolize them too quickly causing them to die. A weed like a dandelion will typically turn black and die within 24-72 hours after the all-natural weed killer has been applied.

Warning About Drought Stressed Lawns

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DROUGHT STRESSED LAWNS: One Earth Weed Control, very rarely, can cause temporary browning to turf grass in drought-stressed lawns or grass with shallow digging grass roots. This temporary browning only occurs in lawns that are not following the 1-2-3-2-1 lawn watering technique or in areas of the lawn with poor sprinkler coverage. The damage may last between 1-3 weeks depending on the overall health of the lawn, but the grass will recover by watering the damaged area thoroughly. This temporary damage only occurs in lawns that have shallow root systems, caused by improper watering techniques or poor sprinkler coverage. If damage occurs hand water the damaged areas deeply for 3 consecutive days and we recommend a sprinkler audit to prevent the problem from ever happening again.

Which Weeds Will One Earth Weed Control Kill?

Bindweed: (Good Control 60-80%, but it will typically grow back quickly) Bindweed is an indicator of drought stress or improper lawn watering. The best way to control Bindweed is by using Drive XLR8.

Black Medic: (Good Control 60-80%) Higher weed control can be achieved (80-90% control) if One Earth Weed Control is applied and then a second application is performed 7-10 days later. This weed blooms from April to October. This weed is commonly found in lawns with low fertility.

FAQ – One Earth Weed Control for Lawns

How does this organic weed control kill weeds in a lawn?

Dandelions and other broadleaf weeds in the lawn are killed because they can’t handle the nutrient overload and they metabolize them too quickly causing them to die. The ingredients in One Earth Weed Control function as catalysts for oxygen reduction, which causes the production of unstable and highly reactive oxygen radicals, such as hydroxyl radicals. This causes cellular damage within the plant causing the weed to die.

When is the best time of year to apply a weed killer for lawns?

Weeds are easiest to control when they are young, actively growing, and have abundant moisture. This tends to be in the springtime for most weeds and dandelions are easiest to kill from late April through May. The ideal time to apply a weed killer is shortly after a rainstorm or when temperatures are cool. The reason for this is because the stoma (pores on leaves) of the plants are fully open and fully open stomata are very receptive to absorbing the weed killer.

One Earth Weed Control will get the best results on dandelions after a rain storm or after a lawn is thoroughly watered. Our full season lawn care programs are designed to apply weed killers during the periods when weeds are most susceptible to weed control. The organic weed control applications are usually spaced out about 6-8 weeks apart. For fully mature weeds, multiple applications may be needed.

Is an organic weed killer safe for kids and pets?

According to the Colorado Department of Agriculture, it is illegal to claim that a weed killer is safe. Therefore, even though a product like our natural weed killer called One Earth Weed Control is made from only edible ingredients, we legally cannot say it is safe for kids or pets. According to the Department of Agriculture, water is not safe. We can, however, claim that One Earth Weed Control is a non-toxic weed killer, that is derived from ingredients that are proven to be extremely unlikely to harm people, pets, and the environment. Therefore, even if a product is derived from all food-grade ingredients we legally cannot say that an organic weed killer is safe for kids or pets.
